MACHAKOS, Kenya Dec 22 – Machakos Governor and Maendeleo Chap Chap leader Dr. Alfred Mutua on Thursday unveiled the fully tarmacked 15 km long Kathiani -Kakuyuni -Kangundo road.
The road, a major communication link in the region, was constructed by the county roads ministry using its staff and equipment at a cost of Sh150 million.
The unveiling of the road which was full of pomp saw Mutua later hold a rally at Kakuyuni town where he said that he will not be intimidated by his political detractors.
“When they hear that I am doing polítics of development, they don’t sleep as they plot on how to bring me down. They will fail,” Mutua said.
This is the second road constructed by the county government after the 33 Km long Makutano ma Mwala road which was tarmacked in a record three months in 2014.
“This road is my Christmas gift to the People of this área,” the Governor said.
He said development cannot be achieved when leaders engage in theft of public resources and political mischief.
Area MCA Winstone Kanui said the road was a manifestation that Mutua was a development conscious leader.
“The Governor is assured of our votes due to his track record. We will re-elect him again,” said Kanui.
Mutua said his government has since 2013 purchased over 20 graders, 6 excavators, 5 bull dozers and numerous road construction equipment, including bitumen distributors and rollers.
“We have used the equipment to grade to motorable levels over 3,000 kms of earth roads in Machakos county, more than any other region in Kenya,” said Mutua.
The Machakos Governor has been using his Maendeleo Chap Chap paradigm which focuses on action for Mwananachi.
Mutua said he was committed to ensuring key roads across the county are tarmacked.
“My politics are those of development and which have endeared me to many of my supporters,”said Mutua.
The Machakos Governor’s style of politics has placed him at loggerheads with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who, until the entrance of Mutua to the political scene was viewed as the Kamba Kingpin.
Mutua was recently kicked out of Kalonzo’s Wiper party for starting his Maendeleo Chap Chap Party which plans to field candidates from all over the country.
Despite being kicked out of Wiper, Mutua said he is confident of becoming a major party leader in the country’s political scene.
“Unlike some leaders, I do not want to be the Lord of poor and struggling people. I want to be the humble leader of people who are living decent and dignified lives,” said Mutua
